Phu Tho province lies in the middle land of Northern Vietnam,  ranging from 20°55 to 21°43 North latitude and 104°48 to 105°27 East longitude, bordering Tuyen Quang and Yen Bai provinces to the North, Son La and Hoa Binh provinces to the West, Ha Tay province to the South and Vinh Phuc province to the East. It is 50 km away from Noi Bai International airport, 80 km away from Hanoi capital and 180 km away from Hai phong city. Situating at the confluence of two big rivers, Red river and Da river, and thus being considered as West Gate of Hanoi, Phu Tho bridges northern provinces of Red River Delta with the country’s mountainous provinces and two China’s provinces of Guang Xi and Yun Nan.

Phu Tho province embraces important transportation routes including: national highway No.2, Yun Nan – Kun Ming express highway route (China) to Ha Noi - Hai Phong, Ho Chi Minh trail; trans-Asia railway route; river route from China all running through Phu Tho province and then flow towards Hanoi, Hai Phong cities and other provinces.

 

 


Phu Tho is located in the tropical monsoon areas, rarely damaged by flood and natural disasters. The province’s temperature averaged at 23.5°C, with average rainfall ranging between 1600 mm – 1800-mm and the humidity is usually more or less than 80%.

The provinces area is about 3,500 km2.The ground strata is firm and suitable with industrial constructions and infrastructures.

There are mineral resources in Phu Tho province such as: Kaolin, feldspar, spirit ores, stone and gravel sand for construction and mineral water.

There are three big rivers running through the province, which are Hong  river, Da river and Lo river. All those rivers ensure a plentiful source of water serving daily life as well as industrial purposes.



There are 13 local administrative districts in Phu Tho province, including Viet Tri city, Phu Tho town and other 11 districts named Doan Hung, Ha Hoa, Phu Ninh, Lam Thao, Tam Nong, Thanh Thuy, Thanh Ba, Thanh Son, Tan son, Cam Khe and Yen Lap.

The population of the province is app. 1322,1 thousand (by year 2010), 65 % of which are at working age, the population density is of 374 people/km2.

Phu Tho province has potential in labor source of 844.300 people, most of whom are young and well-trained, active and eager to work.

The province has good education and training system with Hung Vuong University, Industry University, Continuous Education Centers of the province and at all districts, Transformatic and Language Center and other colleges and vocational schools which can provide well-trained and skilled labors.

  

 
 

a. Communication and transportation:

Phu Tho Province keeps a key position in the national communication system and has three kinds of routes such as roads, railway and waterways. The important land routes, railways and river routes connecting the east and west regions and with the central region of Hanoi capital, which creating favorable condition for Phu Tho province to develop its economy, which are:

 

  • High way No.2 connects Yun Nan province (China) with Ha Giang province, running through Tuyen Quang and Phu Tho provinces to Noi Bai international airport of Hanoi, then continue with national Highway No.5 to Haiphong city and National highway No.18 to Cai Lan port of Quang Ninh province. The national high way 32A runs from Ha noi goes through Phu tho and arrives in Hoa Binh. The national high way No 32C runs from Hanoi goes through Phu Tho to Yen bai Son la, Lai  chau and enters Laos. Phu Tho is transverse by the Tran-Asian road and the Ho Chi Minh Trail.
  • Raiway: Trans Asia railway is from Yun Nan province (China) to Lao Cai province, running through Phu Tho province to reach Hanoi, then joining with other rail routes of Hanoi – Haiphong, Hanoi – Ho Chi Minh City. The railway passing the two industrial zones, Thuy van and Bach hac.

 

  • Water way: Viettri city is the confluence of the three big rivers thus the waterway has the total length of 235km, running from China through the north eastern provinces to Phu tho and then flowing to Hanoi and other places. Viettri River port is one of the biggest river ports in Vietnam, with capacity of 1 million tones yearly.

    b-Electric grid:
Electricity network system and grid lines of Phu Tho province is very stable and 100% of the local districts have tapped the National electricity network.

c- Water supply and drainage system:
Clean water for Viet Tri city and its suburb is supplied by a plant with capacity of 42,000 m3/day, using technology of Germany.

d- Communication system:
At the moment, all types of postal, telecommunication utilities and services are available with high quality, providing domestic and international connection as well.

e- Universal services system:
 

The banking system with available banks and credit agencies in the province is operating effectively, successfully meet the capital needs for investment of enterprises and production units in the locality. Other financial services provided by commercial banks provide convenient, fast and highly secure services, which contributes a good part in raising up business efficiency.

There are villages of workers, recreation and entertainment places...around and neighbouring to the industrial zones. The provincial hospital equipped with modern facilities; there is a commercial centre with a range of stores and shop in Viet Tri city. Guest houses and and hotels are available and of high standard.
